GENESEE COUNTY, MI — A sinkhole that opened up Tuesday afternoon in Genesee County’s Vienna Township has a maintenance crew from the Genesee County Drain Commission working to fill the void.

Genesee County 911 reported a 10-foot hole opened up around 1:30 p.m. Jan. 3 at Webster and Farrand roads, with the road washing away in the area.

The intersection has been closed in all directions.

Jeff Wright, Genesee County drain commissioner, said the Pound Drain that eventually feeds into the Flint River is located in the area.

“It’s a very old drainage system,” he said. “I would easily say that it’s 90-100 years old.”
