EXETER TOWNSHIP — Roads in both Exeter and Raisinville Townships got some much-needed upgrading to the delight of local officials and Valerie Eby, a longtime Maybee resident.

Mrs. Eby, who lives on Geierman Rd., said driving area roads is difficult because of potholes, drainage and “crown” issues on many hard-surfaced streets.

“I’m celebrating because the roads have been so bumpy” for years, the instructor at Eastern Michigan University said Thursday. “When I drive to school or Monroe, I don’t know which way to go.”

In the past two weeks, crews for Cadillac Asphalt Co. blacktopped portions of Blue Bush, Doty, Ida-Maybee, Palmer, Scofield and Sumpter Rds. Blue Bush, a main artery to the Village of Maybee, was closed Thursday to through traffic between Scheich Rd. and the village, causing motorists to find alternate routes to the village.

“They’re doing a fantastic job,” Maybee President Len Gaylor said Wednesday. “All of our streets are paved, but to get here, you had to pass over these (bad) roads in Exeter and Raisinville.”
