KALAMAZOO, MI — Two downtown Kalamazoo bridges will receive minor repairs.
The Kalamazoo City Commission approved $153,464 contract with Davis Construction Inc. to repair the Pitcher Street bridge over Portage Creek and the Paterson Street bridge over the Kalamazoo River.
Public Services Director James Baker said the Pitcher Street repairs will include tearing up the asphalt overlay and laying down new material over the bridge. The bridge on Paterson Street requires repairs to spalled concrete that has begun to pull away from rebar reinforcements due to corrosion and weather.
The maintenance is needed to prevent further degradation, major rehabilitation, early replacement or weight and traffic restrictions. Detour routes will be posted when construction begins.
Baker said it will likely take 60 days to complete both projects. The city has yet to hear back from Davis Construction on a timeline for the Pitcher Street repairs, but Baker said it will be finished by the end of summer.
