A boil water advisory is in effect for Novi residents who live in the area of Eight Mile and Haggerty roads because of an equipment failure at the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department, officials said today.

The advisory is a precaution recommended by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality until the system is flushed.

Tap water should not be used for cooking or drinking unless it is boiled for at least five minutes. If water is used for drinking it should be cooled in a sealed container.

Businesses affected include Orchard Hill Place, those along Haggerty from Orchard Hill place to Eight Mile and the Turnberry subdivision.

The boil water advisory is expected to remain in place for at least 48 hours. Officials will notify residents when the advisory is lifted.
