MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The warm weather may be nice, but it’s creating problems for the roads. Potholes are showing up and drivers are taking notice.
When the temperatures rise, of course, snow melts and the water makes its way into the cracks in roads. When the temperatures fall again, the water freezes and it expands.
The Michigan Department of Transportation partners with road commissions to fix potholes as they are reported. MDOT is also implementing weight restrictions on Michigan roads on Wednesday.
“It’s maybe 10 days to two weeks earlier than we normally put the spring weight restrictions on the state highways,” Dan Weingarten of MDOT said. “In terms of potholes, our county road commission partners had reports that the pothole crews are out patching.”
