LANSING, Mich. – Rob Coppersmith, executive vice president of the Michigan Infrastructure & Transportation Association (MITA), issued the following statement following the passage of the House Republicans’ road funding legislation out of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee:

“As Michigan approaches the road funding cliff this year, significant progress is being made toward a long-term funding plan for Michigan’s transportation infrastructure. The eight-bill package introduced by House Republicans has now passed out of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, marking a key step forward in generating critical funding for roads and bridges. This legislation bolsters Michigan’s transportation budget while protecting thousands of construction jobs that could be lost if swift action is not taken.

“With this momentum, it is critical that leaders in Lansing act quickly to pass a plan that protects thousands of jobs while ensuring our roads and bridges are safe and reliable for future generations. Michigan has kicked the can down the road for too long—now is the time for action.”
