Communities that need help paying for critical local road repairs are receiving assistance from Oakland County.
As part of the county board’s Pilot Local Road Improvement Program, over $1.3 million will be distributed to cities, villages and townships across the county. The program requires each community that requests assistance to match at least 50 percent of the county’s contribution for a specific project.
Communities received a share of the available county funds, $1.57 million, based upon a formula consisting of road miles, population and crash data. The program should leverage a minimum of $3 million in road improvements.
While most communities use program money the year it’s distributed, some will submit multi-year project plans, which allows those communities to bank up to three years worth of program funding.
