LANSING, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) — Macomb County lawmakers are concerned about contaminants in Lake St. Clair.
Some lawmakers say the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality dropped the ball.
Right now many Macomb County families won’t drink the water coming from their faucet without filtering or boiling it.
That’s because families like the DeVergilio’s believe sewage and other chemicals are being dumped into Lake St. Clair.
The mysterious muck in the lake permeates their community.
“It just smelled so bad! There was dead fish in that black muck all along the shore. It’s just scary… Are we going to be the next, like, Flint?” said Geraldine DeVergilio.
Some Macomb County lawmakers say the MDEQ should be put in “jail” for allowing Lake St. Clair to get to this point.
