As heavy rain continues to fall in West Michigan, a flood warning has been issued for six counties in the region.
The National Weather Service issued the warning Monday, Oct. 23, for Allegan County, Kent County, Ottawa County, Newaygo County, Muskegon County and Oceana County. The warning will remain in place until 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
As of 10:35 a.m. Monday, the NWS reported that heavy rain was falling, and that two inches of rain had already fallen. Another 1-2 inches of rain is expected before rain tapers off late in the day Tuesday.
Communities in which flooding is expected include Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Holland, Grand Haven, Allegan, Hart, Newaygo, White Cloud, Hudsonville, Rockford, Zeeland and Coopersville.
A flood warning has also been issued for the following rivers in West Michigan:
- Rogue River Below Rockford affecting Kent County
- Portage River Near Vicksburg affecting Kalamazoo County
- Muskegon River Near Croton affecting Newaygo County
A flood warning means that flooding is “imminent or occurring.” Residents are encouraged to report flooding to their local law enforcement agency.
