With the scenic waters of Lake St. Clair as a backdrop, about 400 people attended a forum on the lake’s water quality Monday night at MacRay Banquet and Events Center in Harrison Township.
One of the takeaways from the two-hour session may have surprised some as a biologist for the Department of Environmental Quality told the crowd that despite the concern over lake pollution, the water quality is actually improving.
“Our water quality has gotten better,” said Kevin Goodwin, a senior aquatic biologist for the DEQ.
Goodwin said as environmental experts continue to learn more about pollution issues, new solutions through technological advancements are created. He said while e. coli pollution has become the target of prevention efforts, new problems such pharmaceutical drugs in the water are being discovered.
