KALAMAZOO, MI — A $2.5 million construction project on M-43 through Kalamazoo continues, causing single-lane closures on West Main Street east of Kendall Avenue.
Starting Monday, July 24, motorists will experience closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on M-43 east of Kendall Avenue as the Michigan Department of Transportation begins a third phase of construction. MDOT completed sidewalk ramp reconstruction and repaving on West Main Street between US-131 and Kendall Avenue last week and will work on sidewalks along M-43 to Pitcher Street through Sept. 22.
MDOT Kalamazoo Transportation Service Center Manager Pete Pfeiffer said this phase of the project, which runs through an residential area, will affect access to residents’ driveways. Lane closures will be taken down as the paving work moves east.
“It shouldn’t last more than a couple of hours,” Pfeiffer said. “Maybe that’s the point where some of those residents may want to take a trip to a restaurant, wait for that pavement to get rolled and harden. They’ll have access to their driveway that same day.”
