Washington — Macomb County Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller will take part in a listening session Thursday afternoon at the White House, where she’ll discuss the massive sinkhole in Fraser.
President Donald Trump invited Miller to Washington among a group of governors, mayors and local leaders to discuss the nation’s infrastructure needs, her office said.
She is apparently the only representative from Michigan who will participate in the meetings with Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and cabinet-level administration staffers.
“I am honored to be able to bring Macomb County’s and Michigan’s voice to the table,” Miller said in a statement. “As we deal with what may very well be the largest infrastructure emergency in the nation right now, we appreciate the president’s interest and his desire to hear directly about the needs of our local communities as we deal with these challenges.”
In December, a large county-owned sewer line collapsed under 15 Mile, leading to a 100-foot-wide, 250-foot-long sinkhole along the roadway, displacing homeowners and requiring a bypass of the sewer line. Repairs, estimated to cost $75 million, are ongoing but not expected to be complete until Thanksgiving.
