ST. IGNACE, Mich. (WLUC) – Contractors for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin asphalt paving work on I-75 Business Loop (BL) this week. The work will result in traffic restrictions.

The contractor has been maintaining driveway access and turning movements with gravel ramps in the work zone but some of those ramps will be removed during paving. Turning movements will be restricted. The contractor is working to keep every other intersection open during paving, and access to businesses is available from side streets.

MDOT is investing $3.4 million to reconstruct about 1 mile of I-75 BL from North Airport Road to North Mackinac Lane in St. Ignace. The work includes asphalt repaving, drainage improvements and curve realignment. In conjunction with the project, the city of St. Ignace is replacing water mains.

Work began on July 5 and is expected to be completed Nov. 15.

The project will result in a smoother driving surface and increased safety, and will extend the lifespan of the roadway.
