MENOMINEE, Mich. (WLUK) — A 10-block stretch of road is closed in Menominee, Michigan, after a sinkhole opened up.

City officials say the sinkhole was discovered overnight on 13th Street. It covers about a five-square-foot area and is about three feet deep.

The street is closed between 14th and 23rd avenues, with the 18th Avenue intersection completely closed.

Crews planned to fill the hole with gravel on Thursday and reopen the road in the evening. It will close again on Friday as the gravel is covered with asphalt.

City officials suspect the sinkhole is the result of a broken pipe.
