A drainage pipe collapse has forced the closure of North River Road in Macomb County’s Harrison Township.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports today that the 48-inch pipe beneath the stretch of road near I-94 collapsed Friday.

Parts of the road’s shoulder and asphalt road surface were starting to fail. County Roads department planning director John Crumm said the pipe is rusting and losing its structural integrity and needs to be replaced.

The road is expected to remain closed until replacement and restoration work is complete. Detour signs are posted.

The sewer collapse in Macomb County’s Fraser was discovered Dec. 24 and caused a sinkhole the size of a football field. The 11-foot diameter interceptor services 11 communities.

Three homes were condemned.
