Detroit police are investigating a fatal car crash that took place early Tuesday morning on the city’s west side.

The fatal, single-vehicle crash left a 22-year-old man dead, said Officer Holly Lowe, a Detroit Police Department spokeswoman.

The victim was a passenger in the driver’s 2012 gray Ford Focus, Lowe said. At about 12:11 a.m., at McGraw and Martin, the driver, a 22-year-old woman, hit a pothole. She then lost control of the vehicle and hit a light pole, Lowe said.

While no pothole was apparent in the immediate area of the scene, a light pole does show damage. Broken auto glass and a gray door were also spotted.

The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he died.

The driver was hospitalized and listed in temporary serious condition. She has since been arrested.
