PARMA TWP., MI – By the end of this construction season, more than six miles of Erie Road will have a new asphalt surface.

The stretch from Parma Road to the west Jackson County border is scheduled to begin Friday, Sept. 22, weather permitting. The road remains open to only local traffic during the construction. Posted detours will lead other motorists around to E. Michigan Avenue.

The $1.47 million project was approved by the Jackson County Board of Commissioners in August.

Michigan Paving was awarded the contract. Work was originally scheduled to begin within 10 days of the Aug. 8 approval and must finish by Nov. 15.

The road will be crushed, shaped and compacted by the Jackson County Department of Transportation before a new asphalt surface is applied. New shoulder gravel will also be placed, per a JCDOT press release.
